Yenisei Eco Forum: trash reform discussed, waste collection A-pupils honoured

02.12.2019

On 27-28 November, at the 1st Yenisei Eco Forum in Krasnoyarsk, politicians, businessmen and public officials met to discuss the most pressing environmental issues.

Feliks Blinov, CEO of the RWM Capital Investment Group, partaking in the Waste Management of Today panel discussion, made a speech on the Company’s experience in operating under the new garbage legislation.

“Of course, we may continue to name the drawbacks of the trash reform, speculate on its crudeness, lack of precision, etc. However, I think it is high time somebody came up with a strategic plan. On the one hand, Krasnoyarsk landfills are already stretched to the limit, the region’s waste sorting facilities are non-existent, recycling centers are not known even as a notion. On the other, the Krasnoyarsk Recycling Company [part of the RWM Capital Investment Group] have developed a strategy which will include bringing an already-existing landfill up to date with modern waste management technology and building a brand-new MSW sorting & recycling plant”, he said.

“We are ready to invest RUB 1,5bn to make it happen. If the Company is persistent in following this strategy, 100% of the waste collected within the left riverbank area will be sorted, and 30% of it recycled.”

An enjoyable addition to the Forum’s programme was an awarding ceremony for the young participants of the 2d Krasnoyarsk region Eco School Olympics. A special RWM prize went to the pupils of Progymnasium № 131 – the children managed to collect about 450 kg of plastic and half a ton of waste paper. Great job!
