A cutting-edge tech project of a high-speed rail between Chelyabinsk and Ekaterinburg is a major infrastructure project in the transport sector of the Russian economy. It is included in the Russian Federal Transport Plan. A new 214,2 km long purpose-built double track railway will boast of traffic capacity of 98 high-speed trains every 24 hours. It will contribute to the creation of new stations en route as well as a new look of the old railway stations in Chelyabinsk and Ekaterinburg. After the rail completion, a journey between two cities will be no more than 1 hour 10 minutes. Such close proximity will form a new urban area of roughly 4 million residents.
