RWM Capital Asset Management performed reconstruction of the grave of N. Tchaikovsky

17.10.2012

RWM Capital Asset Management performed reconstruction of the grave of Nikolay Tchaikovsky at the Novodevichye Cemetery in Moscow. The reconstruction project was performed under the auspices of the Ministry Of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Mayor’s Office of the City of Moscow.

Nikolay Tchaikovsky (1838-1911) was an actual state councilor, notable figure of the railway industry of his days and the elder brother of the great Russian composer Pyotr Тсhaikovsky. He participated directly in the largest reorganization of the railway system in XIX century, was the member of the committee for monitoring of the condition of the railway system in Russia headed by the count Eduard Baranov and one of the drafters and initiators of implementation of the first Russian “Railway Code” approved by the Emperor Alexander III in 1885. After his resignation in 1887 Nikolay Tchaikovsky was put in charge of the Neronovskiy charity institution and S. Yakovlev Printing Office where with his assistance were published musical critical essays by Pyotr Тсhaikovsky as well as the composer’s short biography written by I. Klimenko.

In 2011 RWM Capital Asset Management was offered by its colleagues from JSCo "RZD" to finance the restoration works and to supervise the grave of Nikolay Tchaikovsky. The fact that the grave of the famous railroad industry figure of the past years is in a bad state became known due to the honoured artists of Russia Mr. Avangard Leontyev and Mr. Evgeny Mironov who engage in search and restoration of neglected graves of Russian actors. The neglected grave of N. Tchaikovsky was discovered by them. Having discovered facts of his biography the artists appealed to JSCo "RZD" and suggested to participate in restoration of the memorial of the Russian railway man and brother of the great composer.

“Performance of this project coincided with two dates, - says Mr. Sergey Orlov, CEO of RWM Capital Asset Management. – In November 2011 there was a 100-year anniversary of the death date of the renowned railway man of the past years N. Tchaikovsky. In this very year his grave was discovered and the restoration works commenced. In year 2012, the 175-year anniversary of Russian Railways, the above-mentioned charity project was completed. This coincidence, although purely accidental, is still symbolic.

Unfortunately we did not manage to proceed to restoration works immediately. It took more than 6 months to have the required documents approved and to obtain the respective authorizations. Due to intermediation of the Ministry of Culture of Russia and Mr. Alexander Avdeev personally as well as the Mayor’s Office of the city of Moscow and Mr. Sergey Sobyanin to whom the letters requesting assistance were sent, it became possible to perform dismantling and restoration operations as well as to conclude the contract on supervision of the grave. We are deeply grateful for their support. I would also like to express my gratitude towards specialists from “Megastroy” LTD. Thanks to their efforts the restoration works were completed in a relatively short time.

I would also like to thank Mr. Evgeny Mironov, Mr. Avangard Leontyev and the Management of JSCo "RZD" who have drawn our attention to the condition of the memorial of the famous figure of Russian Railways. At the beginning of October JSCo "RZD" organized the welcome reception on the occasion of the 175-year anniversary of Russian Railways in the process of which the musical and literary performance was conducted and the exhibition dedicated to the philanthropist activity of Russian railway men was hosted. We are pleased that our project was a part of this exhibition and included in the special edition published by JSCo "RZD".

We must not allow the time to erase the facts of our national history and the memory of outstanding people. By performing this small project we strived to at least partially restore justice in this matter and we expect that our initiative will be taken up and the traditions and names of famous Russian railway men will not be forgotten.”
