RWM Capital renovates SFU birch grove

05.06.2023

On June 2, the Siberian Federal University (SFU) made an important step towards a greener future, laying the “foundation” for a new birch grove. The ceremony involved the planting of 100 conifer saplings and 95 fruit tree and shrub saplings.

Representatives of RWM Capital Investment Group, Krasnoyarsk Recycling Company, Krasnoyarsk mayor Vladislav Loginov, and SFU Rector Maxim Rumyantsev joined efforts with the University team to participate in the event. As part of the collaboration with the Siberian Federal University, RWM Capital Investment Group and Krasnoyarsk Recycling Company provided 195 saplings of trees and shrubs for the SFU Green Campus project.

“Any company aligns its strategy with the values of its shareholders and the corporate culture it upholds,” noted Felix Blinov, CEO of RWM Capital Investment Group. “Our corporate culture embraces the understanding that we inherit the land from our ancestors but we borrow it from our children. We strive to reduce the burden on future generations, which is why we are delighted to organize and support environmental action. It is important to us that the saplings we plant today not only grow literally but also symbolically, becoming part of our cultural context and promoting a universal understanding of the environmental behavior and education.”

The designated area for planting the saplings spans 2 hectares. The SFU decided to split the work into two parts. The first part involves planting pine, cedar and spruce trees in the old birch grove, to rejuvenate the native forest and replace the aged birch trees. In the second phase, a fruit and berry orchard will be planted on the southern slopes of the campus, near the dormitories. The chosen location offers advantageous environmental conditions, far from vehicle roads and surrounded by a forest.

In the future, walkways and lighting will be added to the birch grove area. The SFU team will closely monitor the sapling growth and water them regularly, which is particularly important in this early stage. In autumn, creators of the Green Campus project intend to reconvene at the same location to check whether the plants have taken root successfully.
